Celebrating Alvester Walls, Sr.
Feeling a unique kinship that resulted from being childhood friends and constant classmates from the first thru the eight grade, seven of his Jonesboro Elementary School gathered at Al's homegoing celebration Saturday morning: Peggy DeGraffinreid, Earline Lewis Henry, Joyce Herbin Owens, Dorothy Lawrence, Laurether Whitaker, LaRay Barksdale, and Ralph Herbin. Setting together during the visitation, we learned that Al had succumbed to the effects of a thirty-year long ailment. Having lost his father at the age of five, Al had worked odd jobs as a boy. He enjoyed a private workaholic adulthood, ignoring his wife's insistence to hang out with some of his old friends sometime . We then share current knowledge of our remaining classmates. We acknowledged the blessing of not losing any of us since the Vietnam War until now.
During his reflections on behalf of our group Ralph included praise for Al as the best dressing boy in our class and a very respecting classmate & friend, a loving husband, father and older brother, and thanks to God for allowing Al to be a part of our lives.
Al and Earline were blessed to be next door neighbors in a beautiful neighborhood for more than twenty years.
